(COVID-19) Update March 13, 2020

(COVID-19) Update March 13, 2020

Dear campus community,

In an ongoing commitment to providing pertinent details of EKU’s COVID-19 response plan, I am sharing updates about adjustments to University areas and services.

  • Model Laboratory School – Model faculty/staff will attend a professional development day on Monday, March 16; students will not attend school Monday, March 16. Online instruction will occur for Model beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 27. You will find more Model information in this PDF.
  • Burrier Child Development Center - BCDC will be closed beginning March 16, and will remain closed until Model resumes in-person classes, or until further notice.
  • Student Health Services - Student Health Services will operate on a phone triage system, beginning Monday, March 16. Clinic hours will remain the same: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Students with an acute illness or other need will call the main number: 859-622-1761 and choose the appropriate option. If SHS staff determine the student should be seen, an appointment will be provided.
  • EKU/OVC Athletics – Following the widespread suspension of collegiate athletics competitions, all OVC member institutions will suspend athletic-related activities, including all games and formal practices until further notice. Read more about the decision here.
  • EKU Housing – The residence halls are temporarily operating in an open, but limited manner. Students who need university housing must work with housing staff to make arrangements. More information is available at the housing FAQs
  • Campus Services Status – A list of ongoing adjustments to campus services and events will be updated as needed on the EKU COVID-19 Information page. Check the site regularly for the latest information. If you need to report an event cancelation or schedule change, provide the information to your department head or VP to submit to Communications and Brand Management for publishing.
  • Flexible Work Options – The unprecedented level of disruption to schools, businesses and day-to-day routines will present some work-life balance issues for employees. The University will reopen from spring break Monday, March 16. While we will continue to provide adequate staffing for essential services, please consider adjustments that will support recommended social distancing practices. EKU is prepared to offer employees, including our student workers, options to work remotely, adopt flexible hours or other suitable alternatives. Please discuss options with your direct supervisor. Also, be continually mindful of the reporting requirements should you face illness or travel concerns. EKU Human Resources can provide information on employee medical leave and benefits. Seek medical guidance if you are sick, and stay home until you are well.
  • EKU Online Instruction – As previously announced, beginning Monday, March 23 all EKU courses will be delivered remotely. Classes will use this method of instruction until at least April 3. Before that date, academic instruction plans will be reevaluated based on the latest guidance from local and state health officials to determine when on-campus classes could resume. Online programs (e-Campus) will continue operations on a regular schedule beginning Monday, March 16.

Finally, I offer my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your flexibility, patience and understanding as we adapt to the widespread challenges of a global health pandemic. Please continue to be vigilant about your health and show compassion for those who might need additional support. I am confident the only way to face this period of uncertainty is by standing together in a spirit of cooperation, and unwavering resolve to uphold the mission of our great University.

Thanks for all you do,
David T. McFaddin
Interim President
